Artist Statement

Rosie McKellar is a New Zealand-based embroidery designer and tutor. She completed her certificate and diploma at the Royal School of Needlework when she lived in the UK and her work has always been inspired by her home country. Since returning to New Zealand in 2023 she has been exploring combining cyanotype photography and embroidery. This piece was created using plants from her garden in Central Otago, where under clear blue skies she is surrounded by rugged mountains, lakes, rivers, orchards and vineyards. The cyanotype was done on artists watercolour paper and then embroidered with knitting cotton and embellished with sequins and beads.
