Artist Statement
Emily Tull has exhibited internationally and regularly across the UK in group and solo shows. Winning a Kent Creative Award for Visual Art (2017) she has also been a finalist in the Winter Pride Art Awards (2015), selected for the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition, Wells Art Contemporary, Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize (2015 and 2023), and has been a contestant in Sky Art’s Portrait Artist of the Year 2014.
And she moves among the sparrows is about her mother’s relationship with the House Sparrows in the garden. The birds being an endangered species are of the upmost importance so are in full detail. They also rule the outside space leaving her mother’s face to be sketchily moving amongst the birds.
