Artist Statement

Rosie has embroidered for almost as long as she can remember, having been taught by her mother when she was young. When she moved to the UK for work she began studying part time at the Royal School of Needlework and in 2018 graduated with a Diploma in Technical Hand Embroidery with Distinction. Rosie’s designs are influenced by her love of history and her native New Zealand.

This design is based on the trees found on the Bayeux Tapestry, which are very stylised and almost cartoon-like with wonderful flowing lines. Trees with such personality needed to be embroidered in something that accentuated this and goldwork seemed appropriate.
