Blue Bonsai

Artist Statement

Jenn is a self-taught embroiderer, and became interested in embroidery after she began incorporating stitch into her bookbinding designs: she is a Fellow of Designer Bookbinders. Like much of her embroidery work Blue Bonsai is inspired both by nature and the illustrations in antiquarian herbal books, where simplified shapes and forms prevail over realism.

This piece is embroidered on silk dupion, with De Haviland hand-dyed threads, vintage cordé, miyuki seed beads, a remnant of furnishing fabric and Jenn’s handmade resin cabochons.
