Artist Statement

Fiona is an award winning textile artist based in Dorset. She works under her social media name, Marmaladerose and is known for her wildlife artworks created from wet felted wool.

In a change of discipline…. Fiona’s first ever hand embroidered portrait won The Knitting and Stitching Shows Self Portrait Competition in 2020 and her 2023 portrait of King Charles entitled ‘The Gardener King’, was acquired for the Diana Springall Collection of Contemporary Textile Art.

Camilla was hand stitched with British wool directly onto a linen base fabric. Unable to mix thread as you would paint, Fiona works freehand building up thousands of tiny individually coloured stitches hoping to fool the eye into seeing glowing flesh and sun dappled hair.
