Artist Statement

Susie Vickery worked for over two decades as a costumier for theatre in the UK and Australia. After moving to South Asia she began studying embroidery by distance learning and working with projects in India, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Mexico and Turkey, responding to local materials and artistic traditions. Her community engagement and development work is the inspiration for her story-telling with embroidered animations, puppets, automata and textile pieces.

Carbon Footprint reflects her concern about Climate Change and the way that it is disproportionally affecting people in poorer countries who have very small emissions per capita compared to richer countries.
