Artist Statement

This piece incorporates silk fabric hand-dyed with CO2-embedded graphitic nanoplatelets and sequins handmade from CO2-embedded polyethylene plastic. The CO2-embedded materials are made by Carbon Upcycling Technologies (CUT), a company from Canada that creates materials out of upcycled CO2 emissions. In 2020, Annalee was CUT’s first Artist in Residence. As a part of her residency she founded Captured Carbon Studio, a space to explore captured carbon as an art medium and an avenue through which to educate the public about climate change solutions.
