Artist Statement

Masako Newton is a London-based artist specialising in hand embroidery. She creates her artwork predominantly with a needle and thread. She believes that embroidery should be considered as a medium for fine art. Her work reflects colours and textures of everyday life, inspired by nature and driven by feelings, interpretations and stories.

Dappled Light is Masako’s attempt to capture the moment of beauty, and it helps her realise that you can find a small happiness in everyday life and that you cannot underestimate the healing power of nature. Silk shading, stumpwork and goldwork embroidery techniques are used.
