Artist Statement
Christina MacDonald makes contemporary art within the framework of the embroidery processes she learned at the Royal School of Needlework. By retaining the historical integrity of the embroidery technique, the art is rooted in practise that has been undertaken for centuries.
Delft designs initially followed Chinese motifs but evolved to depict scenes of the Dutch surroundings. In this piece, the typical Delft still life tile mural has been updated to feature the artist’s terrier, rather than a more traditionally depicted dog, such as a spaniel.
