Artist Statement

Having spent her working life as an electron microscopist, Annette became a textile artist with a special interest in machine embroidery on hand made paper. Her work is in the form of fabric and paper collages, usually with free machine embroidery but also with hand stitching. Her work often incorporates found objects, collected on her travels and from walks in her home environment. She is fascinated by old fabrics, embroidery and paper ephemera, delving into the stories behind her finds and bringing them out in her art works. Annette’s Dolly Mixtures series was in response to vintage magazine depictions of women.
