Susan D’souza is a Sussex based textile artist, her work explores seasonal shifts in colour and textural details in nature. Estuary from the Air is a composition developed from an original aerial photograph taken by the artist of Pagham Harbour in West Sussex which is an internationally important wetland conservation area and bird reserve, consisting of salt marshes and tidal flats. The piece was created by dyeing fabrics and some of the threads with natural plant dyes to form a textile applique or collage with hand and machine embroidered details. Slow textiles, connection with nature and sustainable practice are at the heart of Susan’s practice.
