Artist Statement

Flōrentia translates as Florence in Latin, Lianne’s grandmother’s name, but it also means flourishing, blossoming and flower, here stitched in a heart motif which represents her love for her grandmother. The techniques used in this piece include drawn and pulled thread work, trailing, ladder stitch, Ayrshire fillings, backstitch seeding, shadow work, granitos, satin stitch leaves and petals, high-relief padded satin stitch, silk wrapped wire stems, eyelets, beading and silk ribbon insertion.

Lianne enjoys all forms of traditional hand embroidery and varied crafts. She achieved a distinction in fine whitework at the Royal School of Needlework on their advanced diploma course and has worked as a volunteer embroiderer at St. Paul’s Cathedral in the City of London for the past 18 years. Lianne is an international award winning and published artist.
