Artist Statement
Emma is a self-taught embroidery artist who works with recycled metal, primarily aluminium drinks cans.
These are cut, shaped and burnished, turning the inside a speckled gold colour. The contrast in sewn and metal materials is a focal point of her practice.
This piece is multi layered and hand sewn, combining aluminium, silk with embroidery and beadwork. It references the biodiversity loss of many species especially insects which numbers are in decline.
