Artist Statement

Amanda, a 1997 graduate in Two-Dimensional Design with over 20 years of experience as a graphic designer, transitioned into a teaching career in Hand Embroidery after completing the RSN’s Future Tutors Programme in 2022. Her passion for design, stitching, and education drives her commitment to sharing the health and wellbeing benefits of hand embroidery with others.

Amanda’s piece beautifully merges her passion for blackwork with the intricate technique of Pointillism, celebrating the significance of Remembrance Sunday. By incorporating French knots in black stranded cotton on silk, she effectively shades the poppy, transforming a floral motif into a profound symbol of remembrance, despite not typically favouring florals. This innovative approach highlights her skill and ability to infuse personal meaning into her work.
