Artist Statement

The work Puppy Play reflects the interplay between opposing forces, symbolized by stitches that bind two sides together. Recurring motifs, such as fetish masks, embody themes of dominance, submission, and duality- representing two identities in connection or conflict within a single self.

Optipoti’s work is inspired by a transformative experience of surviving critical heart failure. Captivated by the beauty of surgical stitches that held his skin together, Optipoti explores the duality of vulnerability and strength through embroidery.

Transitioning from graphic design to fiber arts, he mastered techniques like goldwork and needlelace, discovering a medium that authentically expresses emotion and identity.
