Artist Statement
Rainforest Tiger was created by Jack in The Grange embroidery studio. Jack was inspired by the poem ‘The Tyger’ by William Blake, responding to his words in his work. Jack used the computer to digitize his drawing, focusing on details, patterns and texture. Jack then machine embroidered the final piece.
Jack is supported by The Grange Centre, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives. Embroidery is an important part of The Grange’s identity; historically being ‘The School of Stitchery and Lace’, from 1927-1970. The Grange has since evolved to teach a range of life and work skills. The Grange’s embroidery studio continues its work, producing logos for company uniforms, personalizing items and making artwork.
