Artist Statement

After studying printed textiles, Vinny worked as a textile designer, teacher and has worked in Community-Arts and Public-Art commissions. Her processes combine screen-print, machine and hand embroidery with bonding techniques to produce mixed-media pieces in a variety of formats. She’s fascinated by ethereal materials – delicate vintage lace; distressed tulles; their use and age, emphasising their beauty. This highlights her fascination with ‘Momento Mori’, she sees these delicate fabrics as a metaphor for the fragility of life.

Sea-Holly Momento Mori II highlights the delicately-balanced eco-system of the flora of the intertidal zone. She loves the Sea Holly and its ability to thrive in challenging conditions, while still vulnerable to coastal erosion and human intervention.
