Social Distancing

Artist Statement

Social Distancing is the artist’s interpretation of her surroundings during the pandemic. The leaves are intended as a metaphor for diverse individuals in our communities. Silk shading and Stumpwork embroidery techniques are used.

Masako Newton is a London-based hand embroidery artist. She trained at the Royal School of Needlework, and now she works in the RSN Embroidery Studio. She is also a Broderer at St Paul’s Cathedral in the City of London and a Liveryman of the Broderers’ Company.
