Artist Statement

Angela decided to repurpose some pieces of church linen into her artwork. A spiral, a timeless symbol that governs nature, which is embroidered onto translucent silk gauze with Japanese beads to indicate the passing of time ending at a spiritual home, a Swarovski crystal. The leaves are hand stitched using silk and cotton threads in shadow work, appliqué and surface stitching. One of the linens was kept whole incorporated within the spiral, while the other strips of linen were made into individual petals to form flowers. The flowers represent those from a climbing plant called Clematis Montana which flowers briefly, and along with the handmade butterflies signify the ephemeral aspect of life sustained by spirituality.
