The Lion’s Gaze “Simhavalokana”

Artist Statement

Ann’s inspiration came from observations of nature, life and circumstance. It’s well documented that a Lion has a curious habit of pausing, taking in a moment of stoic calm, deep in thought….. looking back, reviewing recent events and confidently turning to the future. Known in Sanskrit as Simhavalokana, the lion’s gaze, connects Ann with her love of philosophical study. Ann is keen to embrace the embroidery landscapes, reflecting and revisiting what’s been learnt, acknowledging the loveliness of those that she has met along the way, and looking to the future, before returning to the present moment…and just pausing.
