The Promise of Spring

Artist Statement

Carol stitches directly onto painter’s canvas using a variety of rayon, cotton, woollen, and metallic threads. She works mainly on the reverse side of the fabric, putting heavyweight threads on the spool, thus the top finer thread couches the heavy thread in long, free lines, as she draws freely with her machine. She then turns to the right side, redefining and adding finer details. She only works from direct experience. All that Glitters and The Promise of Spring were inspired by her local landscape of the South Downs. She describes her work as “Walking through the Landscape”
