Artist Statement

Susie worked for over two decades as a costumier for theatre in the UK and Australia. After moving to South Asia she began studying embroidery by distance learning and working with projects in India, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Mexico and Turkey, responding to local materials and artistic traditions. Her community
engagement and development work is the inspiration for her story-telling with embroidered animations, puppets, automata and textile pieces.

Travel Diary is an embroidered record of her life showing the one constant in her work and travels – sewing machines.
