Artist Statement
Claire Buckley works with textiles, often combining techniques to create artworks. Living by the sea in East Sussex she has been fortunate to walk on the beach almost every day throughout the last 2 years of the pandemic. This has stimulated her senses and consciousness of the natural environment while foraging for sea treasures washed up onto the beach, some natural and others manmade. This embroidery is a collaboration with nature; shells, sea glass and undulating couched gold work threads form swirling circles on a cream linen ground.
This is reminiscent of the rippling sea and sand on the beach and how we are all connected around the world by the sea.
