Artist Statement

Pauline Medinger enjoys working with a variety of media, often using innovative combinations of materials and technique.

Filled with wonder and profoundly affected by Psalm 139 “You knit me together in my mother’s womb”, Pauline created Unborn in tribute to the miracle that is a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb. She feels blessed to have had the thrill and privilege of seeing baby scans of younger generations of her family. Using a painstaking technique, her delicately “floating” stitched “baby scan” (like a baby dreamlessly floating in amniotic fluid) is an invention; a compilation from dozens of images stored with joy in her head. Threads are fragile. Threads of thought and precious threads of life.
