Artist Statement

Zane Shumeiko’s work is based on experimental free-motion machine and hand embroidery in textile and mixed-media art. She achieved her MA degree from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2022, has exhibited artworks, and has taught in the Baltic states and internationally since 2005.

Zane is interested in the psychological aspects of the craft-making process and how that impacts her emotional and mental state.  Her work is dedicated to family and personal history and experiences. She is experimenting with textile art techniques, trying to blend them with an understanding of creative psychotherapy. She researches the multisensory aspects of the embroidery, memories and emotions it provokes through tactility, visual aspects and sound of the sewing machine and stitch.
