The Three Living and the Three Dead 2021

Artist Statement

The work is based entirely on medieval techniques and subjects, even when the imagery is not. Every stitch is used in a medieval way, and every stitch considers the reflection of light on silk and metal.

For this piece looks at the tale of the three living and the three dead and wondered what would happen if the three dead turned up in a modern day urban setting, rather than the forest glade of the original. Unlike the three young noblemen of the original tale, the three modern protagonists aren’t considering the transience of life or improving their behaviour much at all.
